That 5’4” brunette there is me, I am Sami!
The calmer side of me loves Saturdays in sweats on the couch, with a cup of coffee in my hand enjoying a brief break from the hectic lives we live. Then the spontaneous side of me prefers booking trips and thriving on copious amounts of coffee absorbing every moment.
My career path has been a fairly typical dietitian’s path with a few hiccups here and there. I graduated from Johnson & Wales with my Associates in Culinary Arts in 2011, then continued to get my Master’s degree in Science of Nutrition from North Dakota State University. Over the past 5 years I have been a practicing dietitian in a variety of settings, but specialized in sports nutrition.
Prior to making it into the athletic world, I worked inpatient and outpatient, focusing on pediatrics, eating disorders, and dabbling in…. everything, you name it. This detour took me by surprise, because I told myself I would NEVER be a clinical dietitian but, it was a delightful surprise. I made lemonade out of lemons and it was the best lemonade ever! I learned how to travel for work and, overall, it made me a better dietitian.
By day I am a dietitian, but my heart loves to travel.
Through this website/blog, I am making myself completely vulnerable to you and the rest of the world. Brené Brown taught me that being vulnerable isn’t about being weak, it is about having the courage to put yourself out there no matter the risk/s.
Nutrition is a touchy topic with so many opinions out there no scientific research. As a dietitian I fully support scientifically based research, which is what I base my practice off of. To you my friends, I vow to be upfront and honest regarding questions or comments. As we dive into touchy topics there may be some disagreements, but I ask you to be respectful whether you are addressing a peer or myself, and I will do the same for all you. I want to build a blog of positivity. A place where we can grow as a community and learn from each other, whether that be food, traveling, recipes, or any other topic.
I cannot express how happy I am you are here! This site has been a goal of mine and I am so excited for the what the future holds!
